Magnolia Table is hands down my favorite cookbook. If you don't have it, you should. One of the favorite recipes that I make almost on a weekly basis is JoJo's Biscuits. These biscuits are truly a labor of love. My boys love helping me make these. My 6 year old loves to grate the butter, all 3 sticks of it, yes lots of butter in these babies! My 3 year old loves to watch all the ingredients turn into dough when I hand mix them all. He always says "now its dough mom", its the cutest thing & I love that they enjoy spending time in the kitchen with me. Just home they still love to when they are 16 & 13 ;)
Hopefully I can do Joanna Gaines justice with her recipe. I know my family loves these biscuits. They are great with jam or my favorite sausage gravy {you will see pictured below}. P.S. your home will smell ON POINT!
Ingredients:
For the biscuits: 4 cups self rising flour 2 tablespoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 3 sticks of butter cold, grate 2 eggs, beaten, plus 1 egg for brushing 1 1/2 cups buttermilk, or as needed, plus 1 tablespoon for brushing Preheat oven to 400 In a large bowl whisk, dry ingredients. Add grated butter and cut with a pastry blender, or your hands if needed. Stir in the eggs until combined. Stir in buttermilk. Until combined it will be a sticky mess {see photo above with my hand} If its too dry add more buttermilk, 1 tablespoon at a time. Cover the bowl and refrigerate 30 minutes or overnight if you need. Place dough onto floured counter. Flour your hands to press into a round 1/2 inch think circle. {you see a rolling pin in my photos because my little loves to roll them out} Use a round cutter to cut biscuits, makes about 20. But if you have left over dough, press out again to cute more. Arrange biscuits onto a prepared baking sheet. Making sure they are touching. In a small dish mix extra egg and buttermilk, to make an egg wash. Brush the tops of each biscuit. Bake until golden brown. 15-20 minutes. Store leftover, if you have any in an airtight container for 2 days. For the Gravy: 1lb. jimmy dean sausage-regular 1/2 cup flour 1 1/2 to 3 cups milk S & P to taste Brown the sausage in a large skillet. Once browned add 1/2 cup flour and mix so all the sausage is coated. Once coated allow it to sit for 30-60 seconds. Add milk, salt and pepper into skillet, stir frequently allowing gravy to thicken. Once thick pour onto biscuits and serve. ArchivesSeptember 2018 ![]()
